Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced MiTek Structure Enterprise (SE) Multi-Family Wood Truss Designer to join our Design team. This role is responsible for the engineering, analysis, and layout of metal-plate-connected wood roof and floor truss systems and engineered wall systems for multi-family residential construction.

The ideal candidate brings strong structural judgment, advanced MiTek SE proficiency, and the ability to optimize designs for safety, manufacturability, and cost-efficiency while collaborating closely with Sales, Production, and Project Management.

Key Responsibilities

Structural Design & Engineering

  • Perform structural analysis including load calculations, wind-load assessments, gravity, seismic, and snow load application
  • Conduct beam performance evaluations to ensure stability, compliance, and safety
  • Evaluate structural load paths and design truss systems that properly transfer loads to supporting elements
  • Size and specify truss members, plates, bearings, connectors, and related components per engineering standards and manufacturer guidelines

Multi-Family Project Execution
  • Produce truss layouts, profiles, and placement drawings for repetitive units, stacked floor plans, corridors, podium sections, and phased developments
  • Review architectural and structural plans, customer specifications, and construction data to produce accurate, code-compliant engineered layouts
  • Identify framing conflicts, bearing conditions, and constructability challenges unique to multi-family projects
  • Coordinate truss-to-beam, truss-to-wall, and truss-to-truss interfaces
  • Maintain consistency across multiple buildings while minimizing material redundancy

Design Optimization & Efficiency
  • Enhance design efficiency through optimization of material usage and structural configuration
  • Support standardization efforts to improve repeatability and reduce production complexity
  • Ensure all designs align with manufacturing capabilities and field installation requirements
  • Utilize 3D visualization tools within MiTek SE to validate geometry and eliminate conflicts prior to release

Technical Support & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Provide technical support and design guidance to Production, Sales, Project Management, and clients
  • Diagnose structural issues and recommend practical design solutions
  • Prepare technical specifications and written responses to RFIs and design clarifications
  • Coordinate prototype development when required and obtain necessary design approvals
  • Oversee the accurate handoff of approved designs to production teams
  • Act as a subject matter resource and contribute to peer mentorship and knowledge transfer

Performance Expectations
  • Accurate, code-compliant designs delivered on schedule
  • Strong structural analysis and sound engineering judgment
  • Designs optimized for material efficiency and manufacturability
  • Minimal rework and adherence to internal quality control standards
  • Professional communication with internal teams and external stakeholders

Required Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of applicable building codes and industry standards
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Multi-family truss design experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with engineered wall systems
  • Post-secondary education in drafting, construction, engineering, or related field
  • CAD or architectural drafting background beneficial

We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.

You are being given the opportunity to provide the following information in order to help us comply with federal and state Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action record keeping, reporting, and other legal requirements.

Completion of the form is entirely voluntary. Whatever your decision, it will not be considered in the hiring process or thereafter. Any information that you do provide will be recorded and maintained in a confidential file.

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
